Cyprus income tax rates 2026
In 2026 the first €22,000 of taxable income a year is tax-free. Each rate applies only to the part of your income inside its band, so moving into a higher band never makes the whole salary more expensive.

|---|---|---|---|
| €0 – €22,000 | 0% | €0 | €0 |
| €22,000 – €32,000 | 20% | €2,000 | €2,000 |
| €32,000 – €42,000 | 25% | €2,500 | €4,500 |
| €42,000 – €72,000 | 30% | €9,000 | €13,500 |
| Above €72,000 | 35% |

50% and 20% tax relief for new residents
If your first job in Cyprus started in 2022 or later, part of your salary can be tax-free. The 50% relief applies when your salary is over €55,000 a year and you were not resident in Cyprus for the 15 years before the job. Half of the salary is then exempt, for up to 17 years.
The 20% relief applies when you worked abroad for a non-Cyprus employer for at least 3 years in a row right before the job: 20% of the salary is exempt, up to €8,550 a year, for 7 years. You get one relief or the other, once in a lifetime.
On an €80,000 salary the 50% relief cuts income tax from €13,445 to €2,000 a year.
Social insurance and GESY in 2026
Employees pay 8.8% social insurance on earnings up to €68,904 a year (€5,742 a month); above that cap nothing more is due. Self-employed people pay 16.6% on the same cap.
GESY, the national health contribution, is 2.65% of income for employees and 4% for the self-employed, on income up to €180,000. Pensions, rent, dividends and interest pay GESY at 2.65% too.
Questions people ask
How do I calculate my net salary in Cyprus?
Start from your gross salary and take off three things: social insurance (8.8% for employees, on earnings up to €68,904 a year), GESY (2.65%) and income tax by the 2026 bands. What is left is your take-home pay. The 50% or 20% relief for new residents and the 2026 family deductions can cut the income tax a lot, so answer those questions above.
What are the income tax rates in Cyprus in 2026?
The first €22,000 a year is tax-free. Then 20% up to €32,000, 25% up to €42,000, 30% up to €72,000 and 35% above that. The bands apply to your yearly taxable income after reliefs and deductions.
Do I have to file a tax return?
From the 2026 tax year, every Cyprus tax resident aged 25 to 70 files a return, even with zero income. Anyone else with income files too. The 2026 return (form TD1) is due by 31 July 2027 through the Tax For All portal.
Why is the tax on my payslip different?
Your employer withholds tax every month using form TD59, where you declare your deductions. If you never gave your employer a TD59 with your children, rent or insurance, too much tax is taken and you get it back only after filing. Give the employer an updated TD59 to fix it from next month.
What does each contribution give me back?
Social insurance builds your Cyprus state pension and pays for sick leave, maternity and unemployment benefit. GESY gives you access to the public health system: a personal doctor, specialists, tests, medicines and hospital care for a small co-payment. Income tax and SDC go to the general state budget.
I moved to Cyprus in the middle of the year. Does this still work?
Enter only the income from the months you were resident, and check the residency question first. If you are resident, Cyprus taxes your worldwide income for the whole year, so income from before the move may also count. This is a case worth checking with an advisor.
What does this calculator not cover?
- Company profits (corporate tax is 15% from 2026) and salary vs dividend planning
- Capital gains on Cyprus property, and approved stock option schemes (8%)
- Tax already paid abroad and double tax treaty credits
- VAT, which applies once your turnover passes €15,600 in 12 months
- Widow's pensions, lump sums and termination payments
Is this the official calculation?
No. It follows the 2026 rules published by the Cyprus Tax Department and the Social Insurance Services, but results are an estimate based on what you enter. The Tax Department's own tool is at taxtools.mof.gov.cy. For a decision that matters, get a professional to check.
